Our staff and doctors are aware of the special needs fearful dental patients require. Don’t worry, we’re here to help! We have several options for conscious sedation or what is termed mild to moderate sedation.
Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas)
Nitrous oxide is a good choice for patients who are a little anxious about their dental appointment. It helps patients relax, giving them a floating feeling, often accompanied with a mild tingling and numb feeling in the fingertips and lips.
Its effects resolve immediately after discontinuing use, allowing patients to recover quickly and drive home after the appointment.
This anesthesia option is a great for patients who may be apprehensive about their dental treatment and may want an extra level of comfort.
Oral sedation can be used for any dental procedure. With this option, we can perform more procedures in one appointment saving you time and worry.
What to expect:
Patients will be prescribed the medication the day before the treatment. Doses are tailored to the patient, and often include taking one dose the night before the appointment, another dose one hour prior to the appointment, and possibly another dose during the appointment, depending on the patient.
With this option, a relaxing level of sedation is achieved and the patient is relaxed but awake during the appointment.
Patients choosing this oral sedation will require another person to drive them to and from the appointment and watch over them until they are completely recovered.
